As Trump celebrated his return to his throne at the pinnacle of the world, a wave of uncertainty crashed upon us. That’s how it should be when a new leader rises, particularly one so controversial.
I recently wrote that - were I American, I’d consider voting for him despite the sexism, the assault allegations and - most painfully - his apparent stance on abortion.
For me, however, safety was critical. By Nixon’s Madman Theory, I felt that Trump might just be insane and psychopathic enough to ward off the Putins and Irans of our dark world.
That said, in a particularly sensible move, he is also willing to put an end to the gender nonsense that is mutilating children, and his previous stint saw both growth in the US economy and an unprecedented reign of world peace.
Them’s the trade-offs.
That’s why it’s understandable that so many of you readers are ambivalent and undecided. Not so our celebrity class. They know what’s good for you. They know better.
Nobody - perhaps the world over - better embodies smarminess and smugness than British radio host James O’Brien, who makes a living out of bullying uneducated people on the radio. For non-Brits unfamiliar with his woke oeuvre, he wrote a book called How to Be Right, so that should give you an idea.
You’ll love this corker of a reaction to Trump’s ascension:
An alarming number of people - enough people to elect a president - don’t care at all about liberal democratic norms…as long as it brings down the price of petrol, it improves my spending power in Walmart…as long as things are alright for them.”
Oh my fucking god.
I mean, I’m used to the bigoted, crazed rantings of the Left - and of James O’Brien in particular - but this reeks of a man who skipped breakfast and is running on the fumes of last night’s depressing whisky binge.
Where to begin?
Firstly, one might ask O’Brien to expand on his concept of liberal democratic norms. One of those norms, for example, includes accepting the will of the people. Sure, he has a right to criticise - but he is speaking on a popular broadcaster to a politically diverse listenership. Someone who truly embraces the values of liberal democratic norms might be curious about the views of those who differ from him.
Instead, he labels them “alarming”.
Secondly - and more importantly: that he so breezily dismisses spending power shows just how far the so-called Left has moved away from the goals of the working class. Fuck social mobility, he is saying; who cares whether the average American family can put food on the table for their kids. They elected a guy who I didn’t support. That hurts my ego - and this is really about my ego.
This is the result of the Left’s obsession with identity and ideology. There are undoubtedly huge problems with Trump. I understand why many people - including my readers - would never vote for him. But you’re living in a cloud if you thought for a second that image and personality are more important than spending power.
And that’s just it. Real Hollywood celebrities joined O’Brien in this tone-deaf march for Kamala and her merry band of anti-meritocratic, child-castrating lunatics because it helped their brand. It’s not real life. They don’t know what real life is.
So, yes, let’s be pro-immigration - not just because it makes us look good. Immigrants built the nation. They’re real people in search of a better life.
But let’s also - just a suggestion - be mindful that immigrants work for less and undercut the working class, enabling middle and upper-class celebrities to buy things cheaper while the poorest suffer. If the most significant negative to your life is that your manservants might speak with a Latino accent, it’s no wonder you support the policy.
Jimmy Kimmel has a net worth of more than $50 million. Think of that.
Well, this man broke down in tears on live TV about Trump. I’ve tried not to use the term Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) because of my hesitancy to associate myself with MAGA nationalism. But is anyone else finding this a little…weird?
But here’s why it’s so odd for Kimmel and the countless screaming lunatics on X to react this way:
