Sussex Uni Pays BUT Pedo-Migrant Stays
Kathleen Stock's Gender Realist Victory is HUGE But Wokeness Prevails
I woke up this morning to two colossal news stories in the culture wars. Confirming the death of the woke stranglehold on our institutions, the Office for Students fined the University of Sussex £585,000 for its vicious treatment of former professor Kathleen Stock for being gender critical.
At the same time, news broke that we blocked the deportation of a paedophilic illegal migrant because he is an alcoholic and doesn’t fancy recovering in his home country of Pakistan.
Pakistan, they say, is not a good place to recover from alcoholism.
If this were an isolated incident, it could be put down to an egregious slip through the cracks. Yet, it is another in a long list of absurd reasons given (and accepted) to prevent the deportation of criminals who illegally broke into the UK. Tomorrow’s Heretics guest, Leilani Dowding, told me about another such incident that I had to see to believe: the criminal migrant’s son didn’t like the chicken nuggets back in his home of Albania.
I’m sure this was just one of several reasons he could stay, but the fact that it was even considered shows how bonkers Britain, Europe and the West have become.
If I wanted to stay beyond a visa in the US, I couldn’t very well tell their authorities I fear the UK’s bad weather; that it isn’t conducive to my desire to sunbathe. We have strict regulations in place for a reason.
Before I go into that case, I want to celebrate the first piece of news. Like many of you, I have long been pushing back against the lunacy of gender ideology, which is at its fiercest on university campuses.
(Kathleen) Stock Market Rises!
One of the first big stories to break around the pushback against gender ideology was that of Kathleen Stock, who was bullied out of Sussex University in 2021 for saying what the vast majority of us know to be true: trans women are not women.
I don’t know why it has taken so long for the Office for Students to fine Sussex University for such an obvious obstruction of free speech. Perhaps these procedures simply take a long time. Or it might be that they finally felt compelled to come down firmly now that we seem to have won this particular culture war. It is increasingly evident that gender ideology was a fashion - and we didn’t buy it.
The university’s commitment to “positively represent trans people” and its declaration that “transphobic propaganda [would] not be tolerated” are among the reasons the committee fined the university because it forced professors and students who didn’t believe in gender woo-woo to self-censor.
Of course, ideologues don’t go down gently, so it is no surprise that vice-chancellor Professor Sasha Roseneil announced the university would appeal. She claims the office is being “vindictive” and holding up an “absolutist definition” of free speech.
There is something to be said for refraining from absolutism. I used to think I was a free-speech absolutist. But then I thought about defamation. Should you not be legally protected against a newspaper printing lies about you? Would it be correct to allow professors to continue to teach their students, for example, that the Holocaust didn’t happen or that slavery is a force for good?
These make for profound philosophical debates. I don’t have easy answers. But if a professor or student on campus feels unable to state that men in dresses are not women and that they don’t believe in the magical transubstantiation from male to female (and vice versa), then that, too, is absolutism - not of free speech but of its adversary: authoritarianism.
While the university claims to be concerned about the feelings of the very few trans students, it did little to prevent the hounding of Kathleen Stock, who had to consider security guards for protection.
Despite Sussex Uni’s refusal to buckle, we seem to be moving in the right direction on gender.
…But Pedo Allowed to Stay!
Yet, while most people in the UK are now awake to the perils of mass immigration and multicultural supremacy, those who claim to represent us are not. Government officials continue to reach out to posh hotels to house mainly male immigrants, who increase crime significantly in their hotel’s vicinity.
I quite like the idea of immigration, provided it isn’t en masse or from a culture that hates us. Frustratingly, from my six years in Argentina, I know of countless cases of intelligent, hard-working Argies - who love the UK - being unable to secure a visa to move here.
Meanwhile, hoardes of anti-Western religious zealots are changing the UK so vastly that those Argies - and many others like them around the world - would no longer recognise it even if they were allowed to move here.
Here’s what we know about the paedophile whose deportation was blocked:
